 Get a glimpse of an earlier era at this authentic working Victorian  
 farm, complete with historically attired staff members and accurate  
 demonstrations taking  visitors back in  time more than 100 years  
 ago. Located in Fremont, this farm was originally owned by the Patterson  
 family. Family patriarch George Patterson came out west in  
 search of gold; instead, he found this fertile plot of land and established  
 a thriving country estate with a beautiful Victorian mansion  
 and elaborate Victorian Gardens. The legacy was turned over to the  
 City of Fremont in 1978, and the East Bay Regional Park District has  
 operated the property as a fully functioning, turn-of-the-last-cen- 
 Bayland Nature   
  Preserve 
 While  the South Bay  is  a  mecca  for  tech,  it  also  
 offers a soul-soothing array of natural wonders. As  
 one of  the  largest  undisturbed marshlands in  Silicon  
 Valley and the SF Bay Area, the Bayland Nature  
 Preserve is teeming with a magnificent menagerie  
 of wildlife species. Bounded by Mountain View and  
 East Palo Alto, the 1,940-acre preserve is a favorite  
 for birders who flock to the serene stopover to  
 watch avian migrations along the Pacific Flyway.  
 Aside from scanning the skies, lovers of the outdoors  
 will find plenty  of  places  to contemplate nature  
 while walking, running or biking along 15 miles  
 of  multi-use  trails  with  access  to  a  unique  mixture  
 of tidal and fresh-water habitats. Other popular pastimes  
 include aquatic activities like windsurfing and  
 boating  using non-motorized craft  such  as canoes,  
 kayaks or small, hand-launched boats and sailboards.
