Make+Mingle Family Art Days MakerSpace Open Studio New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU), 106 E Main St, Los Gatos, numulosgatos.org The Museum: The NUMU collects works of art and historical artifacts relevant to the Bay Area, with a focus on Los Gatos, as well as hosting visiting exhibitions. It also offers classes and workshops. Make+Mingle: A new happy hour arrives in town (6–8 p.m., every third Thursday) giving grownups a chance to get their hands dirty creating art, while enjoying enticing libations and mingling throughout the galleries with friends. Family Art Days: NUMU’s MakerSpace opens up one day each spring and fall for the entire family to explore art through hands-on stations, crafts and live demonstrations. Local artists and instructors bring fun projects for all ages. The next art day is Saturday, April 29. MakerSpace Open Studio: Visitors of all ages are welcomed from 12 to 4 p.m., every Saturday and Sunday in the MakerSpace. There’s a different theme each weekend; the museum charges $5 per person to cover the cost of materials. DOWN MEMORY LANE April/May 2017 57 LOS GATOS ART Annual Vintage Vehicles and Family Festival The Museum of American Heritage (MOAH), 351 Homer Ave., Palo Alto, moah.org The Museum: MOAH, which opened in 1990, focuses on American technology and innovation between the years 1750 and 1950. The museum has a massive collection of mechanical and electrical artifacts, more than 5,000 in all. Museum curators mount two major exhibitions each year, with smaller rotating exhibits including an early 20th century kitchen and a 1920s garage. The Event: Every spring MOAH puts on the Vintage Vehicles and Family Festival; this year it’s taking place 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 6. It’s a free, family-friendly event with rare vintage cars, fun activities for all ages and hands-on science demonstrations.
