health + we l l n e s s Simply Beauty by Sara Chappellet Wee all have different little beauty tricks and I’ve put together a few of ours here at Heaven and Earth to share. My hope is to inspire you to try something different, to give you a new confidence about yourself. Hair sets when it’s cooling not when it’s drying. To keep the bounce and volume that you blow dry into the hair, start by massaging a volume mousse, like Seven, Rene Furterer or Bumble and Bumble’s into the roots all around the crown, then brush through to the ends. Blow dry 85% of the wetness out and section the bottom third of the hair, clipping up the rest. Round brush vertical sections as wide as the brush, then roll into a large Velcro roller to cool. Continue with other sections of the head keeping on the vertical or diagonal. Once the 36 www.nAPAVA L L E Y L I F E magaz ine. c o m whole head is in Velcro rollers, spray lightly with a working spray and let them cool while putting on your makeup. For the most effective skin care, use serums before anything else. Serums have smaller molecules so the more active and expensive ingredients are able to penetrate the dermis more deeply thus generating more results. Additionally, put on eye serum first, then face serum, follow with eye cream, then face moisturizer. If a lot of your face products contain sunscreen, it’s helpful to know that the last thing you put on is the SPF strength you end up with, they don’t add up. Furthermore, even the best sunscreen only lasts up to two hours. So, if you use a moisturizer that’s packed with antioxidants it acts like a backup plan because an antioxidant is the only thing that can block a free radical from attacking your precious cells. For an everyday look try sweeping a peachy highlighter like Cindy LouManizer from lash to brow and finishing with Cheater Mascara. For flawless, creamy skin I love The Balm Shelter tinted moisturizer with SPF18 and Frat Boy blush just under the cheekbones. For a foolproof smoky eye, I’m obsessed with SmokeBalm. It has a light, medium and dark shade in each of the 2 palettes and instructions on the back. I use the light shade from lash to brow, tuck the medium color into the contour and blend and then use the darkest color to line heavier on the top, tucking it into the lash line on the bottom, making the outer corners heavier on both for a nice frame. My favorite brushes for eyes are Give Crease a Chance and Crease, Love and Happiness. I ALWAYS use a lash curler before finishing with Cheater mascara. To brighten eyes, use a highlighter like Mary LouManizer on the inner eye, the middle of the lid above the pupil and just below the brow. This makes you look more awake, bright eyed and bushy tailed! My favorite new way is with Bare Minerals Luminous 1, 2 or 3. It has tiny light reflecting particles that deflect light away from darkness. It’s the most effective way to get rid of dark circles under the eyes! Another quirky trick is to use Preparation H under the eyes. Yes, you read that right. It reduces inflammation, redness and irritation. Now that’s most intriguing, right?! By now your hair is all cool and set. Gently remove the rollers, softly spraying each section after you let it down. I can’t live without Kenra Volume 25 spray. Then finger fluff and direct. You can layer in the spray and then give it one last overall go around. VOILA! Hollywood hair right there on your head! The most important beauty tip is to be confident. Aren’t we all attracted to someone who is self assured, comfortable with themselves? You’ve done the work to get ready, now go own that room. . . . . Stay Beautiful!
