October/November 2014 63 MARLUVE VELTZE 17 ART AND MUSIC SCLOrk • SANTA CLAR A UNIVERSITY It stands for Santa Clara Laptop Orchestra, and it sounds like Silicon Valley forging the future of music, or maybe like supernatural and beguiling strains emanating from deep space. It’s the brainchild of Santa Clara University music professor Bruno Ruviaro, who directs a mix of music and tech-savvy students. Using a personal laptop and speaker, each member plays separate parts of an original composition. There’s one spring concert, as well as gigs throughout the year.
