South Bay Accent - Jun/Jul 2016

60 South Bay Accent 6 BRUSH UP ON AR T TOUR OUTDOOR INSTALLATIONS Take an afternoon off to view some spectacular art in the Woodside hills at the Djerassi Residents Artists Program (djerassi.org). Since 1979, more than 2,000 artists have stayed at Djerassi, the largest artist residency program in the Western United States. While in the program artists create fanciful and fantastic sculptures, which adorn the green hillsides throughout the ranch. Take the 3½ to 4½ hour Director’s Tour, which includes a look inside artists’ studios, or the 2½ hour Two-Mile Tour, which only includes outdoor sculptures. The tours are kept small, so tickets are limited. Another option for enjoying outdoor art is the Cantor Arts Center’s Outdoor Sculpture Walk on the Stanford Campus, at 2 p.m., on the first Sunday of every month. You’ll see and learn more about the university’s extensive collection of 20th-century sculptures. 7 8 SWEET SURRENDER CO0L JAVA On those especially warm days it’s a treat to take in caffeine via a sweet iced coffee. In the last two years iced coffee sales have soared nationally by more than 115 percent, which shows how much we love the chilly brew. Try Philz (multiple locations) for either its regular or Mint Mojito iced coffees, or Blue Bottle Coffee at HanaHaus (456 University Ave., Palo Alto) for the mellow and sweet New Orleans style. INDULGE YOUR INNER CHILD BOUNCE AROUND No one will ever forget your summer barbecue if you bring the crazy and hilarious game of Bubble Soccer to the party. Players wear cartoonishly large clear plastic bubbles while bouncing around and crashing into other players on the field. The people at Silicon Valley Bubble Soccer (svbubblesoccer.com) promise players will be literally rolling on the ground in laughter. The company brings a set of bubbles to the party with the machine to blow them up, and will even provide a referee.
