MAY 10 April/May 2014 13 APR 27 Marvelous Machines There will be no shortage of things to look at when the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show rolls into Half Moon Bay on April 27. Consisting of fantastic flying machines, quirky contraptions and just about every form of automobile known to man, this fascinating festival features more than 2,000 modes of transportation from the 20th and 21st centuries. Crowd favorites include Model T fire engines, vintage buses, muscle cars and antique horseless carriages, and there will be plenty of low-riders, tricked-out motorcycles and “green technology” vehicles as well. Kids who need to get out some energy can do so in a special section filled with zip lines, mechanical bull riding, a climbing wall and Waterballerz, which are giant inflatable balls that hold a human and can float on water. Of course no festival would be complete without food, drink and live music, so visitors can look forward to those essentials, too. Tickets $5-$20. Half Moon Bay Airport, 9850 N. Cabrillo Hwy., Half Moon Bay. 650/726-2328 Clinton Up SClose he has been one of the most recognizable faces in the world for at least 20 years. More than 50 books have been written about her, and at one point, the public had such strong feelings toward her that Time magazine featured her photo on its cover with two check box options: “Love Her” and “Hate Her.” She has withstood scathing verbal attacks on her personality and marriage and has been criticized for everything from her hair styles to her role in Benghazi to her recent comments comparing Putin’s military action in Crimea to Hitler’s moves in Europe. Yet despite the immense pressure, Hillary Rodham Clinton has charged forward, remaining laser-focused on her work and her goals. On April 10, the former secretary of state, New York senator and first lady comes to San Jose. Now that she’s had a small amount of time for reflection, find out what the “smart power” foreign policy advocate, devoted champion of children, fighter for human rights and — possibly — first female president of the United States has to say during her visit. Tickets $85-$200. Event Center, San Jose State University, 290 S. Seventh St., San Jose. 866/449-8118.
