Dear Friends,
A few Saturdays ago, I stood in my kitchen enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun
through the windows. The ingredients to our family’s cherished gingerbread cookies were
scattered across the kitchen counter. It was a perfect day to get a head start on my Christmas
baking!
Before long, my kitchen was filled with the delightful aroma of molasses, cinnamon, and
ginger. With Christmas music in the background, it seemed as though I had created a bit of
heaven right on earth. As the timer sounded, signaling the season’s first batch of gingerbread
was baked to perfection, the words “Joy to the world, the Lord is come!” rang through the
kitchen. It truly was almost a “Norman Rockwell” moment.
As I continued to roll and cut the spicy brown dough, I pondered on the words joy to the
world and all the merry traditions of Christmas. A season filled with festivities and friends.
A time when our homes seem almost magical, decorated with Christmas trees and twinkling lights. A time when our
hearts spontaneously overflow with goodwill and love. I reflected on the Savior Jesus Christ, a babe, born in a manger—the Son
of God. I heard in my heart the very pronouncement of His birth exclaimed with great joy!
As you celebrate the many happy traditions of the Christmas season, dear to your family, I hope that your heart may also be
filled with the joy made possible for each of us by the Savior of all mankind—He whose birth we celebrate and whose life we
hope to emulate.
Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas,
Susan Condie
