The Cosmopolitan Cowboy If you’re really looking to get away, you ca ountain Village resort are perhaps among the most remote ski areas in the lower 48. Although the nearest airport recently started accepting commercial flights, the I-70 corridor (which frequently jams up Vail and Breckenridge) is an inconsequential 140 miles away. The closest traffic light is nearly an hour outside town, while Denver is a 6.5 hour drive on a good day. All this combines to keep out the drive-bys. “We're still remote enough,” says Stacy Ostromecki, Business Development Manager with Telluride Real Estate Corp. “You have to be committed to get here.” And to the committed go the spoils. Ms. Ostromecki explains that Telluride prides itself on, well, many things. And they deserve it when compared to other Rocky Mountain escapes. Among them are the short lift lines (over 15 minutes is a nearscandal), the funky authenticity stemming from its mining town heritage, and their ability to combine cosmopolitan living (e.g. sashimi-grade flown in daily, vibrant arts community, music festivals), with a friendly Wild West character and carefully managed Historic District that sets Telluride apart from the rest. Summertime activity junkies (mountain biking, trail running, hiking, fly fishing) have found their places on the vast and varied terrain surrounding Town, while stand-up paddleboarding is popular on the area's many lakes. Fat tire mountain biking is the latest buzz in addition to snowmobiling and the usual winter downhill pursuits. And although Telluride’s appealing character comes in part from being a little less smoothed over than other nearby-ish ski towns (ahem, Aspen), it’s certainly not lacking for luxury. The Mountain Village combines retreat and resort, as a ski-in ski-out development with amenities like a car service to shuttle your family from fresh powder runs in the morning to an afternoon exploring shops and art galleries before enjoying a 5-star dinner of wild game from the surrounding peaks. There are still opportunities to custom-build your luxury family retreat in The Mountain Village, while the smaller Historic Town of Telluride is fully built up. Telluride Eatle's Rest Lodge is the ultimate retreat for generations of family that comfortably sleeps twenty-five within five spacious bedrooms and two bunk rooms, with incomparable trailside access. Expansive mountain views explode at entry through a floor-toceiling window spilling sunlight upon a two-and-a-half story great room replete with a rustic stone surround fireplace of equal height. Constructed of stone and douglas fir logs, this property is timeless, one-of-a-kind masterpiece. 100 Eagle's Rest Circle, Mountain Village, Colorado 7BR | 8.5BA | 9,156 SQ FT $8,300,000 Chris Sommers/T.D.
