It’s a day which, unfortunately, one remembers forever. Jared was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (AL), a childhood blood cancer, about eighteen months ago. He will continue chemotherapy treatments until 2014. Luckily, with the help of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), survival rates continue to increase for AL, and most children are cured after their treatments. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research and provides free information and support services for patients and their families. The programs offered by LLS help families like the McDaniel family navigate through the many questions and unknowns when a child is diagnosed with cancer. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Light The Night” Walk will be taking place at Veterans Memorial Park in Downtown Napa. “Light The Night” is an inspirational and memorable evening for all ages. Friends, families and co-workers form fundraising teams to help raise funds for LLS. Walkers will light up the evening sky with twinkling balloons to symbolically light the dark world of cancer: white balloons are carried by survivors and patients, red by supporters, and gold by those walking in memory of loved ones. The walk will have fun activities for all ages, including balloon artists, facepainting, music, food, and more! In its first year in the Napa Valley, LLS hopes to raise over $150,000 to help cancer patients. Step up and join Jared and other cancer patients at the Napa Valley Walk this fall. To register, visit www.lightthenight.org/gba or call the local LLS office at 707.544.4350.
