The Willis House Judge A.C. Palmer House The Willis House, built in 1875, exhibits the Palladian style while it foregoes the gingerbread decor often associated with Victorian homes of this era. The owners spent a year restoring and renovating their elegantly decorated home. Inside, visitors are treated to beautiful antiques and many exquisite works of art. A huge redwood tree, probably planted about the time the home was built, stands stately in front of their home. Nearby is the repurposed church. The Church House, a Victorian Gothic structure, was constructed in 1879 as the The Willis House Community Methodist Church. Rediscovering the beauty of this building, according to the owners, was an exciting project: tin ceilings, beautiful arches, stunning windows and an amazing space to repurpose into a home the owners love. They rescued the beauty that had been covered up for many years and added some modern touches to give it a unique style. The Holy Assumption Monastery features a chapel, a historic two-story building that served as a boarding house for railroad workers in the 1890s, and beautiful gardens. The The Church House Orthodox chapel is a copy of the one at Fort Ross, which was built in 1812. A board from the original Fort Ross chapel was given to the monastery and now rests in a place of honor inside the main doors. Also in the chapel are myriads of Orthodox icons, some dating from the 15th century. Holy Assumption Monastery Chapel S E P T E M b E R / O C T O b E R 2 0 1 2 47 The Church House
