Simply Beauty by Sara Chappellet Lashes! Let’s talk about the often-ignored eyelashes. Wearing makeup most days is really pretty tough on our eyelashes, and they work hard for us! They hopefully keep foreign particles out of our eyes and they make us look brighter, happier and healthier when they are long, curled and dark. As children we often have dreamy lashes, but as we age and put wear and tear on them, each one gets thin and weak and they thin out in number. Many women struggle with this and want to do something about it. So here are some options for thicker, fuller lashes and ways to keep what you have healthy. Use a warm compress about once per month on the eyes to help the hair follicles unclog. Then gently rub almond or olive oil on the lashes to condition them. Wearing eye makeup every day is damaging, so go a few days without it from time to time. For more volume, length and fullness use chemicalfree mascara like Bare Minerals or The Balm. Be sure to use a lash curler first. You can heat it with a blow dryer and curl the midsections and at the root. You can also apply lash strips or individuals. There is a learning curve to application but it can be pretty quick when you get it down. If you wear glasses be sure to get falsies that have a curl to them so they don’t push on your lenses. Cherry Blossoms is a new 2-step product on the market that lays down fibers on the lashes and literally lengthens each lash, also adding fullness. The gel, made of high grade natural beeswax, is applied first, promoting longer, thicker lashes when used regularly. Then apply the natural cellulose fibers several times and watch your lashes grow before your eyes like magic! It’s clump-free, hypoallergenic, will not cause any irritation and melts away with water. Be sure to use your lash curler first. Cherry Blossoms runs $65 34 www.nAPAVA L L E Y L I F Emagaz ine.com for a 60-day supply. Increases lash voluptuousness by 300%! There are many lash growth products on the market. The one I’m most familiar with is Nouriche. I’ve had amazing results in about 3-4 weeks from using it as directed. It uses high impact peptide technology with conditioners, botanicals and antioxidants to strengthen and grow stronger lashes; $150 for a 6-month supply. I had no side effects and my lashes were unbelievable! My favorite lash fullness solution has been lash extensions! There is maintenance required, but it’s totally worth it. They last about two weeks and then I need a fill; just like gel nails, they grow out. But I get to lie on a table with my eyes closed for an hour and a half and get up glamorous! No need to wear mascara because they are perfect. They don’t push on my glasses and I look awake and interested all the time! They run $75-$150 with 3-style fullnesses, and fills are $50-$75. Ducky Rickman is my favorite for lash extensions, and she works out of Heaven and Earth in St. Helena. She uses a pharmaceutical grade suture glue to attach each lash. She also does magical makeup, fantastic facials and wonderful waxing. She’s brilliantly talented and her personality is sparkling and delightful. For more info go to www.schedulicity.com.
