Many come together to raise money for local needs For more than 30 years, the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV), through our annual fundraiser Auction Napa Valley, has given much-needed funds to the Napa County community. In the fall of 2011, we hit a milestone when auction giving surpassed the $100 million mark. Like any wise investor, we decided to use this benchmark as a time to evaluate our grant program and ensure our resources were focused on efforts where we can make the most meaningful difference. The goal for Auction Napa Valley is to invest in bridging some of Napa County’s most critical gaps. There are many worthy programs and groups to support. After a tremendous amount of research and consideration, we made the announcement last year that auction giving will now focus on two strategic priorities: community health and children’s education. Significant grants to non-profit organizations will help make quality medical and dental care available; offer resources, education and services to at-risk families; provide support in the areas of mental health, substance abuse and aging; and help kids succeed in school. In all, Auction Napa Valley gave another $7 million to the community from the proceeds of the 2012 event. Sharing details of the services and anticipated outcomes of this incredible investment is nearly impossible to neatly summarize in a few paragraphs. We urge you to visit www. auctionnapavalley.org and read more about the breadth of Auction Napa Valley’s “Beneficiaries.” 1 4 www.nAPAVA L L E Y L I F Emagaz ine. c om If you aren’t already, please consider becoming involved in this community effort. “Neighbors helping neighbors” is the heart and soul of the auction’s long-time success. This year’s auction is just around the corner and you can support the cause, even if you don’t attend: volunteer, give a warm welcome to our guests visiting the Napa Valley, make a contribution of any size to our Fund-A-Need campaign or bid in the E-Auction and bring some unforgettable wines to your cellar and table while helping this worthy cause. Beginning May 1, you can view the E-Auction lots at www. auctionnapavalley.org and get in on the fast-paced bidding starting on Sunday, May 26 at noon PDT, with the virtual gavel coming down starting at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2. The Napa Valley Vintners work together with so many—vintners, bidders, volunteers, local restaurants, community leaders, strategic partners and donors—to ensure each year’s success and the chance to raise millions more for those in need from American Canyon to Calistoga. We deeply appreciate everyone’s support of this amazing community collaboration. Linda Reif Executive Director Napa Valley Vintners Photo by Jason Tinacci
