Arty April Arts in April In April, wineries are once again turning their attention from the art of wine to winery art for this year’s Napa Valley Arts In April , a thirty-day showcase of the arts in wineries. Exhibitions and activities will showcase various winery collections, from Belle Epoque to contemporary, and museumworthy to hyper-local. Wineries such as Chateau Montelena, Jericho Canyon and Markham Vineyards, as well as art spaces such as the Napa Valley Museum and the Calistoga Arts Center, will collaborate on a series of exhibitions, artist receptions and activities. Throughout the month, wineries will offer residents and visitors special tasting offers during the week, and local arts organizations and galleries will host wine and art events on weekends. The legendary Chateau Montelena will feature the plein air paintings of New Zealander Tim Howe. On his website (www.timhowestudios.com), Howe says he works to capture “a contemporary interpretation of landscapes, incorporating a dramatic use of color and texturing while capturing his subject matter with a unique contemporary flair. His landscapes seem to exist outside the frame, literally stretching beyond the canvas. With vivid accents and lively vigorous brushstrokes Howe continues his search for new images of familiar subjects.” Mr. Howe explains, “As a landscape artist, I am naturally inspired to paint by what I see in nature. Since I come from a strong graphic design background, I tend to draw upon this experience in creating my paintings.
