Schweiger Vineyards Event at Auction Napa Valley benefits St. Helena Hospital J U LY / AUGU S T 2 0 1 3 37 As part of the annual celebrations of Auction Napa Valley, Schweiger Vineyards hosted a select dinner party on Friday, May 31. Thanks to bidder, vintner and community generosity, Auction Napa Valley 2013 broke numerous fundraising records throughout the weekend, generating $16.9 million that will support healthcare, housing and children’s programs, including St. Helena Hospital’s community health initiatives. One of the world’s finest and most anticipated wine-related events, Auction Napa Valley brings together local vintners and wine lovers from around the globe to raise funds for community causes. Since its founding in 1981, the Napa Valley Vintners fundraiser has raised over $110 million to benefit non-profit organizations that help Napa residents. Thousands have benefitted through funding of programs at St. Helena Hospital, including the Martin O’Neil Cancer Center, the Women’s Health Center, the Coon Joint Replacement Institute, and the new Adventist Heart Institute. A signature part of Auction Napa Valley is the vintner-hosted dinner parties, where vintners open both their wineries and their homes to benefit local causes. At these intimate dinners, guests spend personal time with some of the best vintners in the world, enjoying top wines, fine food, and the beauty of Napa Valley wine country. Schweiger Vineyards hosted twenty guests in Napa Valley Casual style, featuring the winery’s signature estate wines. From the terrace at Schweiger’s Spring Mountain wine estate, 2,000 feet above the Napa Valley, guests enjoyed a fine dining experience created by Rob Wilson, executive chef at the exclusive Montage Laguna Beach and 2013 guest chef for Celebrity Cruise lines. The evening concluded with music and dancing as winemaker Andrew Schweiger and his jazz band provided a private concert for the winery’s guests. Vintner Fred Schweiger is a long-time supporter of St. Helena Hospital, both through events such as Auction Napa Valley, and through generous personal contributions. “This community has nourished my family and my business,” he says. “For me, it’s a joy to be able to give back in some small way.” About St. Helena Hospital: St. Helena Hospital is part of Adventist Health, a faith-based, not-for-profit integrated health care delivery system serving communities in California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. We invite you to visit www.sthelenahospitals.org for more information. About Schweiger Vineyards: Fred Schweiger purchased his first eight acres in 1960 for $250 an acre. Inspiration to plant the “King” and “Queen” of vines begins by the late 1970s. During the 1980s, Schweiger fruit was sought by premium wineries like Joe Cafaro, ZD, Newton and Stags Leap Winery. In 1994, Fred’s son Andy (a UC Davis grad) came on board as moonlighting winemaker while he perfected his craft at notable wineries in the Napa Valley.  In 2003, Fred’s daughter Diana came home to expand the brand as national sales director after working thirteen years with larger supplier houses including Heublein, Paterno, Rosemount Estate and Southcorp. Today, all 35 acres of the sustainably farmed fruit is estate bottled for the Schweiger Vineyards label. Along with noble varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, micro-blocks of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, and Petite Syrah are farmed for proprietary red blends.
