GOING Green NAPA VALLEY BUSINESS SPOt LIGHT by the Napa County Green Business Program wine & DINE Sustainability From vine to bottle, the making of Silverado Vineyards’ exquisite wine depends on the experienced hands of a strong community 52 www.nAPAVA L L E Y L I F E magaz ine. c o m Wine & Dine understands corporate needs in a green and sustainable way, and they are unabashedly relentless about quality. Customers breathe in the exquisite beauty and bounty of the Wine Country with sophisticated events and adventures that leave zero carbon footprint. The first of their kind in the Napa Valley, Wine & Dine’s “Green” Events bring luxury to environmental responsibility. Pampering with the very same indulgences as their conventional programs, Wine & Dine’s “Green” programs feature the region’s most exclusive hotels, inns, spas, wineries, restaurants, caterers, transportation companies and activities. Behind the scenes, their partnerships and meticulously drafted vendor contracts ensure that events feature the cutting edge in energy and fuel efficiency, water conservation, sustainably grown food and wine, and reduced paperwork. Wine & Dine strives to make your experience environmentally conscious from start to finish, and in situations where there’s no way around a carbon impact, they will offset it with the purchase of renewable energy credits. To become certified, they simply needed to demonstrate to the Green Business Program what they were already practicing. Their company fleet consists of Priuses; they recycle everything possible, buy organic and recycled materials, and support other Green Certified vendors. Wine & Dine is currently the only Certified Green destination services company in Wine Country. Good wine is about people, from every hand that helps create our Cabernet Sauvignon to every current and future friend who lifts a glass of our wine around the dinner table. We would not be Silverado Vineyards without a strong community, which is why the Miller family, who owns the winery, feels so strongly about being a good neighbor. Of course that starts with how we go about our daily tasks. Our entire estate is sustainably farmed: 15% is farmed organically; 70% is Certified Napa Green; 50% is preserved in the Land Trust exclusively for open space and agriculture use. Our solar panels power 40% of the winery. We are proud of these accomplishments, but they are just the beginning. We know we can and will do better. For us, sustainable is not simply a farming method, it is an approach to all of our activities. It is the driving force behind everything we do to ensure that this winery and estate are here for generations of our customers, neighbors and the Millers to enjoy.
