MARS LASAR New career focuses on fine art photography EDMUND GRANT Valley artist to the world ▲ During the month of December, Valley artist Edmund Grant brought his highly regarded work to New York to the renowned Walter Wickiser Gallery in Chelsea for the Show “Larger Than Life.” These works were characterized by a signature of sensuality, with bold and lush color that allow room for one’s own interpretation. The use of strong color, experimentation, new media and the different elements of lines and sensuality gave his work depth and intrigue that provoke insight and contemplation. Another highly regarded solo show in June, “Jazzland and Other Stories,” was held at the Napa Valley Museum in conjunction with “Art of Cool, The Artworks of Miles Davis.” In September, Grant was once again honored by the jury at the Museum of Chianciano in Tuscany at the Biennale of Chianciano 2013. Grant had previously won First Prize in painting at the 2011 Biennale from the prestigious Anglo- Italian Academy of Arts and, in the Chianciano International Award 2012, a first prize in digital arts and the Leonardo Award. A Yountville resident for seven years now, he is combining a long and successful career in music with a more recent passion for fine art photography in the Napa Valley. As a musician/composer/producer, he has released thirty solo record albums, two of which went platinum, including material that has been featured on TV shows like CSI, America’s Most Wanted, Medium, 24, Baywatch, The Young & The Restless, General Hospital and Hard Copy. His work as a photographer combines high-definition photography with multiple exposures from the same camera angle, taken at different times of day and different seasons, to build remarkable composite images of local Napa Valley landscapes and wineries. “I like to push the edge of technology in anything I do, whether it’s music or photography,” said Mars. “But whatever art form you work in, you still need to be accessible so that people can understand it.” Mars is preparing to show at several places in Napa Valley, and a show of thirty of his fine art photographs at the Peju Province Winter Art Exhibit, which celebrated Peju’s thirtieth harvest, has been extended through February. He has also been guest artist at Andretti Winery on an ongoing basis for six months now.
