EMILY MYHRE Model citizen fights bullying Born and raised in Napa, Emily Myhre was always into sports. The Napa High graduate was a spirit leader and well liked by her peers. What makes Emily so intriguing is her gentle soul and giving heart. Her senior quote was, “Be kind whenever possible, and it’s always possible.” Myhre said she became aware of how cruel kids can be, and how popular kids treated other kids. So she started Napa Bully Task Force. “Being on so many teams, I saw girls’ competitive factor and I wanted to make a difference in our community,” she says. She started by giving presentations to schools on the effects of bullying. This desire to help people is leading her to get a degree in psychology to help children. Myhre is working her way through college as a model for MDT San Francisco. Her easy-going personality keeps her grounded in a business that can be brutal on girls. “I have to have a clear mind going into modeling and be true to myself,” she said. “I’m lucky, grateful and blessed to have this wonderful experience.” Some of her modeling gigs include Samsung, Vera Wang 2014 Spring Collection, Levi’s and the new face for Jambu Kayak. This spring Myhre is planning a mission trip to Thailand to work in an orphanage. ▲ KADEL HOCK 11-year-old local television host L ike most kids Kadel Hock is a dreamer. The Napa Valley Language ▲ Academy sixth grader wants to be an actor and be on the Disney Channel. He knew, though, that he needed to start small, so instead of just dreaming he put that desire into action and started his own show on local Napa TV 28. Since the age of eight, Kadel has been hosting Kadel’s Career Connection. Each month, stretched out on a couch with his shoes off, he interviews three local people about their jobs with a twist. Many of his questions are challenging and make his guests think. Kadel said his favorite person to interview was Barry Martin, who also piqued his interest about live theater. The “most famous” person he has interviewed is local radio personality Bob St. Laurant. His mother Michelle thought he wouldn’t follow through, but three years later Kadel is still going strong and is always seeking other careers to investigate. He has an adventurous spirit and likes to explore, surf and play soccer and is into electronics. Kadel also describes himself as like Sherlock Holmes because, he said, he pays attention to detail. According to Michelle, he is a kind kid and a good citizen who volunteers his time with local service clubs. He has been growing his long locks since he was a baby, with only occasional trims. His show airs Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m., or go to www.napatv.org. photo by KARI RUEL J A N U A R Y / F E B R U A R Y 2 0 1 4 23
