Husband and wife winemaking team John and Katherine Ritchey of Bottle Jack Winery (1088 La Madrona Dr., Santa Cruz) share their labors of love with tasters from 12 to 4 p.m., the weekends of Oct. 15-16 and Nov. 19-20. The couple will pour wine and share inside knowledge of the varieties they produce, including Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, among others. The J. Lohr Wine Vineyards and Wines tasting room (1000 Lenzen Ave., San Jose), is hosting a special Harvest Dinner, 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21. One of the most anticipated events of the fall is the Premier Cruz Santa Cruz Mountains exclusive Cabernet tasting, 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, at The Toll House Hotel (140 S. Santa Cruz Ave., Los Gatos). This bold red produced in Santa Cruz Mountains American Viticulture Area (AVA) since the mid 1800s, with a distinct character all its own, is the star of the day.
