South Bay Accent - Jun/Jul 2016

66 South Bay Accent TRIP OUT DAYTRIP TO PESCADERO 18 Get out of the valley and over to the coast for a day in idyllic Pescadero, south of Half Moon Bay. There are several fun things to do in the small town, starting with Pescadero State Beach, on Highway 1. A long, sandy beach awaits daytrippers, where you can picnic, walk through the surf, or take a nap on a beach towel. Nearby, the Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve is home to most extensive wetland on the Peninsula, where you’ll find a wide variety of waterfowl to spy. South of the state beach is Pigeon Point Light Station Historic Park (210 Pigeon Point Road) where you can see the 16-foot tall, 2,000-lb. lens on display in the Fog Signal building. Make time in the day to head over to Harley Farms Goat Dairy (205 North St.). Besides making cheese and producing honey, the folks at the farm are turning goat’s milk into soap and lotion. Tours are available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Pie Ranch (2080 Highway 1), a food education nonprofit farm that has a farm stand with fresh produce and luscious pies. And no visit to Pescadero is complete without a stop at Duarte’s Tavern (202 Stage Road), with the best artichoke soup anywhere—some describe it as a “bowl of heaven.” If RV or tent camping, book a stay at Costanoa Lodge (2001 Rossi Road, Pescadero), which also features a lodge and a spa. Available activities include a Kids Camp, mountain biking and horseback riding.
