Ways to Celebrate SUMMER SALUTE THE SEASON WITH YOUR PICK OF PLEASURES 56 South Bay Accent BY PAM MARINO “Summertime is always the best of what might be.” When author Charles Bowden made that declaration of affection he might not have been roaming the South Bay, but his sunny sentiment holds true for our regional cornucopia of warm-weather delights. Even in frenetic Silicon Valley things slow down a bit between May and September, with more time in the margins for a life outside—not just out of the confines of workspaces and homes, but outside of those wearisome daily routines we’ve boxed ourselves into since the start of the year. In the longer, warmer days of summer, all our senses get to celebrate—tastes and aromas, sights and sounds with the addition of tactile pleasures like walking barefoot on beach sand. The best of summer is waiting for us to indulge in, and we don’t have to travel far to embrace it. ¶ So ditch the electronic devices (at least for a while), grab friends and family, and try one or all of the 21 activities that made it onto our Summer Super Fun List. Some will push you out of your comfort zone, some are delicious and others are deliciously lazy. Have fun!
