S I L I C O N VALLEY’ S PHOTO COURTESY OF JOAN MARCUS For most companies on our Silicon Valley’s Top 100 list, 2015 results reinforced the value of stability over volatility. There were no big jumps, plunges or other significant changes in this year’s rankings. Mature tech giants secured the Top 6 spots on our list once again, with Apple taking the lead for the fifth consecutive year in gross revenue, followed by HP, Google, Intel, Cisco Systems and Oracle. All held the same rankings as last year (although Google is a wholly owned subsidiary of newly formed parent company, Alphabet Inc.) Last year’s three newcomers— which found their way on to the list as beneficiaries of the hot IPO market—also held steady. Camera-maker GoPro Inc., which made its debut at No. 50, climbed the list to No. 47. Cyber security company, Fire Eye, moved up two spots to No. 77, and data analysis company Rocket Fuel made the biggest leap to No. 65 from No. 80. The biggest change results from the absences in the 2015 rankings. The following six tech companies disappeared from the list after being acquired last year: Informatica Corp. (formerly ranked No. 56); Altera Corp. (formerly ranked No. 43); PMC-Sierra Inc. (formerly ranked No. 73); Aruba Networks Inc. (formerly ranked No. 64); Integrated Silicon Solutions Inc. (formerly ranked No. 87); Silicon Image Inc. (formerly ranked No. 95); And Micrel Inc. (No. 97).
