Here’s to the holidays! It’s the most wonderful—and most
whirlwind—time of the year. ’Tis the season when clocks
operate at warp speed, short days lead to long to-do lists and
we revel in every hectic minute. Well, mostly. Take a breather,
and welcome to South Bay Accent’s annual holiday issue.
Winters here may be moderate compared to other parts of the country, but
during the next few months, we’ll get our share of shivers. To help ward off
the chill, writer Kathy Chin Leong presents “Cozy Up to the Joys of Winter,”
an engaging array of light hearted tips for snuggling up to the season. From
eucalyptus steam rooms to torrid dance moves, winter never felt so toasty.
And while pondering the comforting warmth of hot chocolate and
toddies, it’s a short leap to visions of luscious holiday desserts. In “Sugar
Rush,” writer Susan Hathaway unveils a showcase of elaborately crafted
sweets from the kitchens of talented local pastry chefs. If you’re inspired by
the gorgeous, mouth watering photos, use the chefs’ detailed recipes to try
your own versions at home—because every special holiday meal deserves a
spectacular finale.
As always, when you need a kitchen break, you can easily find plenty of
great food nearby. Our comprehensive Dining Guide is filled with trendy
new spots and well-established favorite restaurants. Keep it within reach; it’s
a handy resource for every appetite, budget and holiday occasion.
One of the many joys of the season is the exchange of gifts, and often, the
deepest and most potent satisfaction comes from the actual gift of giving.
Such is the case with San Francisco Giants player Buster Posey and his wife,
Kristen, who are passionate and generous givers to the cause of pediatric
cancer research. In “All-Star Cancer Activists,” writer Julie Vallone introduces
readers to this major-league couple, whose commitment to cancer-stricken
children goes far beyond financial support. It’s an inspiring, hopeful story
that began three years ago when Kristen reached out to an unknown family
battling for their son’s life. Read about the Poseys’ winning approach to taking
on pediatric cancer and learn how to help.
Also in this issue, we present our 33rd annual Holiday Guide featuring
“Feeling Very Merry,” a beguiling display of gifts specially selected to appeal
to the various moods of everyone on your list. And take a look at Festive
Events, a bright lineup of seasonal outings and celebrations; together with
our Calendar—offering two full months of fun things to see and do—there’s
never a dull moment.
Here, too, are dazzling party fashions and accessories in Style and a parade
of intriguing new products in Spotlight. Additionally, our special section,
Gifts Galore and More, is a one-stop shop for all things holiday—from perfect
presents to great getaways.
There are many different ways to celebrate this season of goodwill and
giving. However you choose to observe it, we wish you a memorable holiday
filled with love and peace.
