WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO RAISE MORE THAN $17 MILLION for Alzheimer’s research? Indomitable determination, passion and advanced persuasion skills as personified by Atherton resident Michaela Hoag. Driven by personal experience, she has ascended to become a tireless activist and founder of “Part the Cloud,” an organization that delivers much-needed funding to help combat this debilitating disease. Among other talents, Hoag has mastered the fine art of enlisting the aid of celebrities who in turn attract high net-worth donors to the cause. “My Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s around age 48 South Bay Accent 65,” Hoag says. “I come from a very large Irish East Coast family. When I moved across country I wanted to be able to help somehow, but the question was how do I get involved when I live on the West Coast? So my husband and I talked a lot, and the one place that we felt we could really make a difference was in helping to support Alzheimer’s research.” A New Jersey native who moved to Silicon Valley with her husband Jay Hoag, a cofounder of Technology Crossover Ventures, “Mikey,” as she is known to her friends, was drawn to the work of the Alzheimer’s Association, a nonprofit that funds research around the country and abroad.
