South Bay Accent - Aug/Sep 2015

August/September 2015 67 SHUTTERSTOCK “Why does watching a dog be a dog f ill one with happiness?” —Jonathan Safran Foer, author BLTARZAEILR S If hiking is more your thing, many local open space areas welcome dogs on leashes. Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve allows leashed dogs on trails and has an off-leash area for dogs under voice control. Other favorite trails include the Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. Located above Los Gatos, this area offers sweeping Bay Area vistas. After the hike, grab lunch in dogfriendly downtown Los Gatos. Beginning or older hikers (dog and/or human) should give the popular multi-use Los Gatos Creek Trail a try. It’s paved and relatively flat; there’s even a dog park to enjoy near downtown Campbell. A wonderful list of Bay Area dog-friendly trails can be found at Bay Area Hiker’s website bahiker.com.
