The daylong event produced by the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association includes a Grand Wine Tasting from noon to 4 p.m., featuring more than 50 vintners pouring more than 150 wines. Sip, sample and bid on wines throughout the afternoon. VIP Grand Tasting tickets are $125, which includes entrance at noon; general admission tickets are $95 and offer a 1 p.m. entrance. Three downtown areas are holding Spring Wine Walks in April: Campbell (5-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 20), Willow Glen (2-5 p.m., Saturday, April 23) and Los Gatos (1:30-5:30 p.m., Saturday, April 30). Dozens of local wineries—some established favorites and some up and coming ready to be discovered—will share their latest sips, including Renegade Winery, Clos La Chance, Cooper-Garrod Estate Vineyards, and Guglielmo Winery, to name just a few. Visitors will have a chance to ask vintners questions about their wines, and to explore one or all of these quaint downtowns with a wine glass in hand. The dramatic and rarely open to the public Mer Soleil Winery near Salinas is opening its elusive doors from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 14, for the Santa Lucia Highlands Gala X event. More than 40 wineries from the Santa Lucia Highlands will be pouring outstanding pinot noir, chardonnay and syrah varietals. It’s the only public tasting of the year for many of the participating artisan vineyards. Limited release 90-plus point wines will be featured from wineries like Kosta Browne, Testarossa and Pisoni. Joining vintners will be some of best chefs from the Monterey Peninsula, providing gourmet bites to accompany the wines. Tickets are $95, available from SantaLuciaHighlands.com.
