Based on the New York City newsboy strike of 1899, “Newsies” tells the story of young newspaper sellers who are exploited by their bosses and set out to enact change, only to be met by the ruthlessness of big business. Winner of the 2012 Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Choreography, the musical is filled with one heart-pounding song-and-dance number after another. May 10-15, times vary. Ticket prices vary. The festival benefits the nonprofit Cupertino Sister City Committee, which promotes friendship and student exchange programs between the two cities.
