Yet similar to how cigarettes were once routinely advertised as being good for you, the allure of tanning is crumbling away. ¶ Skin cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, according to the Surgeon General, and incidence rates are rising even as many other cancer rates are dropping. Approximately 5 million Americans are treated annually for skin cancer, according to Skin Cancer Foundation estimates, and one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. »
