OPENING LINES CELEBRATIN3G 5YEARS From the Editor P eel away the layered look and shed the leaden weight of winter – spring is here and the world suddenly looks a lot brighter! For starters the great outdoors, bursting with fresh new life, awaits exploration. And here’s a perfect opportunity for golfers, wine-lovers and nature enthusiasts: “Swing and Sip” by writer Kevin Samson presents a tour of four beautiful golf courses bordered by picturesque vineyards in notable Northern California wine-growing areas. This story has everything, from tips on how to master the courses to helpful notes on what to do and where to stay, sip and dine. There’s much of the season’s bounty to discover close to home, too, as you’ll see in “Blissful Bounty.” Here, writer Susan Hathaway shares mouthwatering finds from strolls around a number of local farmers markets. In a growing market trend, vendors are selling more and more high-quality, prepared food, and we’re on the spot with a fun run-down of the tastiest delicacies to be found in the valley. And, while we’re on the subject of great food, it’s always a pleasure to show off our highly regarded Dining Guide, where Best Bites points the way to a comprehensive array of fine restaurants. From barbecue to Burmese food, from fabulous four-star cuisine to bistro fare, keep this resource on hand when you’re in the mood to dine out – it satisfies every appetite and budget. This is a season brimming with hope and joy, qualities often found among society’s youngest members. So, it’s fitting that our feature “Young Guns” by Pam Marino focuses on the astounding energy and vitality of three of the South Bay’s brightest whiz kids. These talented teens have already piled up remarkable achievements in the fields of business and technology. Read their stories and let them inspire hope for the future and joy for passions pursued. We can’t think of springtime without noticing all the things we’d like to do to spruce up our houses. Whether it’s a big remodel or some new decorative touches, you’ll find plenty of ideas for updating the gathering spaces in your home. “Designs for Living” is a gorgeous pictorial that showcases stunning work from some of the area’s most creative designers and architects. To complement this feature, we’re pleased to present Comfort Zones, our annual interior design and home improvement resource to the area’s leading experts in remodeling and building needs. Of course, fresh new looks aren’t confined to the house. Turn to Style for a glimpse of the season’s latest fashions and accessories – it’s a celebration of spring color, from brilliant brights to pretty pastels. And, don’t miss Spotlight, a visual parade of intriguing new products, and Calendar, where you’ll find 150-plus activities and events to entertain everyone in the family for the next two months. The days are longer, the weather is mild and there’s a heady scent of lavender in the air. Here’s to spring – and all the many pleasures it brings!
