South Bay Accent - Apr/May 2014

THE SOUTH BAY is more than just a hotbed of innovation and creativity for grown- ups; it’s the incubator for some amazing young people. These teens are ready to set the world on fire thanks to their inquisitive minds, talents, optimism and entrepreneurial spirits. It’s not unusual to read of local teenagers who are on a path to cure cancer or create Silicon Valley’s next big thing. From a lengthy list of phenoms already making unique contributions to the world, we’ve asked three to share their extraordinary stories. These young entrepreneurs and creators— Rohan Agrawal, turning 13 in May, Jason Li, 17, and Brienne Ghafourifar, 18—were not aggressively pushed by their parents out of the cradle and up the ladder of success. On the contrary, they all display an inner drive that moves them toward learning more, discovering more and solving any problem that stands in the way. The teens are very aware of the valley’s unique influence on their development, as well as their own influence on other young people who are wondering how to jump in and carve out entrepreneurial success. Adults, too, can learn from these wise wunderkinds, skilled in generating support for new ideas and using collaboration to overcome barriers. Although today may be the first time you hear about this remarkable trio, you can bet it won’t be the last. » HAIR BY DANELI GIERTYCH, MAKEUP BY ISABEL JACKSON OF ATELIER SALONS, SANTANA ROW; LOCATION COURTESY OF GARDEN COURT HOTEL, PALO ALTO April/May 2014 53 ROHAN AGRAWAL BRIENNE GHAFOURIFAR
