BLOSSOMING IN THE HEART OF ARCADIA By Andrea Kalmanovitz The story starts with a Silk Floss tree that has firmly planted its roots for over 75-years, in the center of a burgeoning destination. With every season the tree blossomed, the area markedly evolved around it to become one of the most sought after neighborhoods in the Valley - Arcadia. History cites that as early as 1915, the plan for Arcadia was to divide tracts into large lots. It was mandated that no home could be built for less than $5,000, which was significant at the time and resulted in well-heeled homebuyers coming to stay. In the 1930s, the affluent residential character of Arcadia attracted the first of many resorts, including the original structure for The Cook Mansion, which later became the Royal Palms Resort. Arcadia flourished as a destination, and has since grown into a hidden oasis in the middle of a bustling city. In 1941, this special Silk Floss tree took root. Then, in 1968, what is now the former iconic Baker Nursery built a prosperous business around it. Baker Nursery became a neighborhood and Phoenix favorite, frequently visited by locals to hand pick bougainvillea, hibiscus, citrus trees and succulents for their yards. Among these locals was the team that is now giving life to the Silk Floss tree’s next chapter, Empire Residential Communities. When Baker Nursery sold, plans went underway for a residential community that preserves the heritage of the land, called The Villas at Baker Park. Empire Residential Principals, Richard Felker and Rich Zacher, are long-time, ITALIAN FLOSS SANTA BARBARA FLOSS and highly respected, Phoenix-area residents. They recall visiting Baker Nursery with their families, thus instilling a passion to maintain its legacy. There is a sense of nostalgia and a warm welcome as you enter through the residential gates of The Villas at Baker Park. The community is truly a nod to the rich history of the area, and will be adorned with plants and trees from the iconic Baker Nursery. The centerpoint of the private gated neighborhood is the Silk Floss tree, with community amenities surrounding it. Features include a beautiful lush park, resort-style pool and spa, official-sized Bocce Ball Court, outdoor entertainment with a barbeque area, Ramadas, fire pits, and even a dedicated dog park for the furry members of a family.
