All-in-One Access While technology exists to simplify our lives, some-times it can have the opposite effect. “There are systems out there that are driven exclusively by apps - up to 15 different apps driving different systems within the home,” states Lentz. “For example, you can have Sonos to control your music, Lutron’s app for lighting control, DirectTV for television, Nest for thermostats and so on.” The idea behind smart home integration is to give homeowners the ability to access everything in one place, from anywhere in the home. Companies like Sa-vant have manifested this idea into an all-in-one app, as well as the new Savant remote that offers an even more comprehensive smart home experience. Another ongoing trend in smart home technology is remote access. For owners of second and third homes, having the ability to check on your home’s systems re-motely can bring peace of mind. Looking to the Future The idea of a smart home can seem like something out of science fiction when compared to what we had 10 years ago, and even now technology is in a constant state of change. “The industry is evolutionary,” Lentz says. “Every couple of years, there are enhancements to the current technology, making things more powerful, more cost effective and easier to use.” From the newly introduced Dolby Atmos surround format, which adds audio channels above the listener as well as around them for a more immersive and realistic home theater experience, to the recent move from 1080p to 4k high-defiinition video, improvements are always being made to the fun toys in a home, as well as to its more essential systems like lighting and security. And companies like Cyber Technology get to be the ones who bring that technology into the home in a personal and user-friend-ly way.
