I love just standing out on the deck of Diana and Roy Carnavale’s home and seeing the breathtaking vista of the Valley below. Everyone should occasionally take a drive up one of the many side roads of the Valley and check out the view from above. It is always different and beautiful! • Best Produce Sta nd Mark and Teresa’s Big Ranch Market right off Trancas Street on Big Ranch Road has long been my favorite go-to produce stand. From May to October they are also at the Napa Farmer’s Market every Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Their tomatoes and arugula definitely take the top spot on Claudia and my salads all summer long. • Best Advice Follow the Golden Rule—“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Treating others as you would like to be treated was an important ethic of responsibility in my family and was always a moral philosophy that made sense to me. We all want to have a positive impact on others and make a difference in our lifetime. Kindness and compassion go a long way to making the world a better place. • Best Kept Secret in Napa The Napa Valley Chamber Orchestra Series. This musical event is held in downtown Napa at the First United Methodist Church from October 2014 through May 2015. The Series showcases world class chamber musicians from all over the world. www.chambermusicnapa.org/this.html • Best Home -Cooked Meal Perfectly grilled rack of lamb with fresh roasted asparagus is one of my signature meals, and one I never tire of making or eating. I also have a reputation of making a mean cream puff—which is improved exponentially with my wife Claudia’s incredible homemade ice cream! • Best Wateri ng Hole I’m addicted to Ritual Coffee in the Oxbow Public Market. Every Saturday morning, Claudia and I start our Saturday ritual of shopping at the Napa Farmers Market with a delicious cup of Ritual Coffee—their café latte is best! • Best Art Galery /Studio Not to toot my own horn, but the Robert Hampton Dental Studio is my life blood and my very favorite place to spend my days. I love sharing my art with my dental patients to create a warm and relaxing atmosphere. 100% of any artwork sold supports my dental mission in Malawi, Africa. I go every year to take care of villagers and train local dental staff. Feel free to stop by and check out my latest paintings or sculptures—no appointment necessary to view the artwork. 96 www. n A PAVA L L E Y L I F Emagaz ine .com • Best Book In What Remains by Tracy Kidder. The story highlights the life of Deogratias, a man who journeys to America from Burundi and the people that help him along the way. It highlights the tenacity of the human spirit and the capacity of a person to go from having absolutely nothing to attaining great knowledge and achievement. The fact that he returns to his own country to take care of his people is the most heartwarming aspect of the story to me. • Best Place to Take Out -Of -Town Guests Angèle Restaurant, in an old boathouse right on the edge of the river, is located at the very end of Main Street in Napa. It has a great French wine list and a relaxed, yummy, French-inspired menu. We always love the ambiance on the outdoor terrace; it’s a nice oasis after a long day of wine tasting or sightseeing. Angèle has the most incredible tasting Pavé de Boeuf Haché (that’s French for a classic hamburger) in the Napa Valley. And that bit of inside information may have been the best tip on this page! featuring Robert Hampto n, DDS Napa Valey dentist, painter, sculptor and philanthropist by Sharon Ufberg
