S E P T E M B E R / O C TO B E R 2 0 1 4 9 With Dolly, the VW bug, and Gigi Lichau of Lito Auto Body publisher’s note This past summer has been exhilarating, exciting and surreal all at the same time. First I was honored to have my 17-year-old niece from Michigan, Hannah Michelle Lambert, stay with me and intern for the magazine. It was a whirlwind schedule of teaching her about interviews, photography and how to put a magazine together. Her first assignment, not even a full day in California, was to sit down with myself and famed Chef Thomas Keller (see page 14). Then we spent the afternoon with San Francisco Giant baseball great Dave Dravecky (see page 62). We expanded her palate by introducing her to Napa Valley’s famous cuisine, and she even explored some winery property. I will forever cherish our memories together. I missed my sidekick as soon as she got on the plane. The restoration of my 1962 VW bug, named Dolly, was completed at the end of June. Many thanks go out to Lito’s Auto Body, Silverado Upholstery and Dave Robertson for helping bring new life to Dolly. See page 58 for the full story. She is becoming an icon for the magazine and helping spread happiness across the Valley. Stay tuned for our promotion where you can get a free dinner and a ride in Dolly on us. NVL is also proud to help support the Frys.com PGA TOUR coming to the Silverado Country Club in October. Please see our special section beginning on page 24. Finally, I’m excited to announce that I now have a financial partner in the magazine who will help catapult Napa Valley Life magazine to the next level. It has been a challenge and a strain on me both mentally and physically to do all that it takes to put together a world-class magazine. I realized earlier this year I am not always superwoman and that I could use some help. The cool thing about the partnership is I will continue to do the thing I love and that is bring you the best stories this Valley has to offer. I am honored to have a new behind-the-scenes staff and a crew to handle the business aspect of the magazine. Look for exciting improvements to come both in the print and online version of Napa Valley Life magazine. Enjoy!!!
