Leaning against the wall is a large painting by local artist Angela Tirrell. This piece was inspired by markings inside her studio at the tannery, a place where dye vats were stored, leaving behind stains as a reminder of the days when cowhides were tanned there. The rug is handwoven from 100% hemp. The ottoman pillows are made in America from remnant vintage rug pieces, and the round pillows are sewn from salvaged sari fabric. Next to these is an “earth bowl” made by local potter Nikki Ballere Callnan and her husband Will Callnan. Made of recycled clay and paper that has been sourced from landfills, each of these bowls takes on its own unique organic shape. In the kitchen are a serving platter and a flower pitcher, hand-shaped and fired by Nikki. The owl towel is made by a small Sacramento company that uses a green printing process, free of harmful environmental chemicals or solvents. Dressed in green products, Emily Shelley wears an organic cotton scarf. It is draped over a pesticide-free tank top which was woven in a wind-powered factory. Her ring is a vintage piece and the bag at her feet is made from a recycled army tent. Hanging above are lanterns constructed from discarded metal. I encourage you to shop local, and shop green.
