OPEN MAP HERE downtown napa news + map ”Tree Street“ homes featured in 25th annual candlelight tour The History Center: Napa County Historical Society and Napa County Landmarks present the 25th Annual Candlelight House Tour on Saturday, December 14, from 3-7 p.m. This year’s tour showcases the history and eclectic architecture of Napa’s “Tree Streets: West of Jefferson.” The self-led tour features seven houses ranging from Victorian cottages to Craftsman bungalows built at the turn of the century. In the early 20th century, this suburban neighborhood was at quite a distance from the thriving commercial center of downtown Napa—anchored by the Hatt Building at the end of Main Street, the Courthouse on Brown, and the Goodman Library. Napa’s western suburbs grew with its nouveau riche and emerging middle-class. These new families commissioned skilled craftsmen to build fashionable homes away from the busy industry near the river. Tickets are $35 for NCHS and NCL members in advance; $40 for non-members. On the day of the event, December 14, all tickets will be $40. Tickets can be purchased at the Goodman Library, by calling 707.255.1836 or 707.224.1739, or online at napacountylandmarks.org or napahistory.org. The Napa History Center at the historic Goodman Library is the office of two historic preservation organizations engaged in a unique joint venture relationship. The Napa County Historical Society purpose is to discover and keep history alive through exhibits, lectures, and events, as well as research, publications, and educational activities. It is a membership-based archival and educational organization dedicated to the discovery, preservation and presentation of the people and history of Napa County and its place in California history.
