This means now is the time to map out your festival must-dos. Fret not, as we think two of the festival’s main events do a great job of giving an excellent, broad stroke immersion into the tastes of Napa Valley—mark your calendars for First Taste Napa on Wednesday, November 20, and Appellation Trail: Tasting Napa Valley on Friday, November 22. Both First Taste and Appellation Trail are walk-around tastings; the first is a festival kickoff and culinary stroll through downtown Napa, and the second is the festival’s grand tasting that takes place inside the storied walls of The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. Both events will get eager tasters up close and personal with the people who make the Napa Valley so special, while serving some of Napa Valley’s best bites and splashes of wine. Let us give you a little more insight into two of the most festive Flavor! Napa Valley events. First Taste First Taste, Downtown Napa’s exclusive kick-off event for Flavor! Napa Valley, will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This event is a premier culinary stroll through Downtown Napa that includes a guide listing the First Taste participants, who will be offering complimentary tastes of signature dishes and personal greetings from various chefs. Each participating restaurant will be offering a special prix fixe menu exclusively to First Taste ticket holders. Restaurants participating in First Taste include Andaz Farmers Table, Azzurro Pizzeria, Morimoto Napa and The Thomas. While a small selection of tickets are available à la carte, the majority of First Taste tickets are available complimentarily to Napa visitors who book overnight accommodations with one of the participating lodging properties. Appellation Trail: Tasting Napa Valley Flavor!’s Friday night taste fest, held from 6-9 p.m., treats guests to wines from Napa Valley’s 16 subappellations, and the best nibbles to accompany. This indulgent night of sipping and feasting features nearly 100 wineries and 25 restaurants—all under one roof of the majestic CIA in St. Helena. Throughout the evening, rub elbows with winemakers and chefs who make Napa Valley the premier culinary destination that it is. Restaurants include FARM at Carneros Inn, Morimoto Napa, Silverado Resort and Spa, and Solbar. Participating wineries include Cakebread Cellars, Grgich Estate and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars.
