NOV E M B E R / D E C E M B E R 2 0 1 3 9 publisher’s note For the past eleven years this issue has traditionally been our “Intriguing Napa Valley Residents Worth Getting to Know,” and that worked because November had been a quiet month for activities. Recently the month of November has come alive with sought-after festivities that have been a big boost to the tourism economy, extending the visitor dollars beyond harvest. Both the Napa Valley Film Festival and Flavor! Napa Valley are in their third year and are worth attending. There is more information about these events on pages 19 and 21. If you were expecting our annual “Intriguing Issue” for November/ December, don’t worry, it’s happening. We decided it was a great way to kick off the new year, so have moved it to our January/February issue. There you’ll read all about Napa Valley residents who have intriguing jobs, hobbies, adventures, or have gone above and beyond to make Napa Valley the incredible place that it is. If you know of someone who fits this bill, email me at kari@napavalleylifemagazine.com with a brief description of why he or she is being nominated, and their contact information. We are also including “Intriguing Things About the Valley.” Some of the candidates have already been selected, but we are still looking for young people who are doing incredible things. Besides exciting annual events, there are plenty of festivities going on during the holidays throughout the Valley. My three favorites are the ice skating in Downtown Napa, the Festival of Lights in Yountville and the Lighted Tractor Parade in Calistoga. Plus we have an extensive Ali Yildirim and Yusuf Topal of Tarla and Napkins listing of where to ring in the New Year on page 62. Be sure to check our comprehensive online calendar at nvlmag.com for more ways to celebrate these next two months with your family. Finally, it’s “from Turkey with love” that I can once again showcase Tarla Mediterranean Grill. Owners Yusuf Topal and Ali Yildirim fell in love with the Napa Valley and continued to show their support for Downtown Napa by expanding their popular eatery earlier this year, and with plans to have a second restaurant, Napkins, due to open by Thanksgiving.
