At the tasting room they have an outdoor seating area that can only be described as breathtaking. On a clear day you can to see down the valley above the Meadowood resort in St. Helena and all the way to Napa. Just awesome! • BEST ADVICE Smile, be kind, and think the best in others. No one wakes up thinking they want to hurt you. . . forgive. • BEST WATERING HOLE Compadres Rio Grille, a Mexican restaurant on Lincoln Avenue in Napa, is my first choice. The bartenders are fantastic, you always see someone you know, and even the people you don’t know are great. Close second is Redd restaurant in Yountville. • BEST PLACE TO TAKE OUT-OF-TOW N GUESTS My go-to locale is the Artesa Vineyards and Winery on Henry Road in south Napa. This place could also be Napa’s best-kept secret. The architecture, art, views and wine are stunning, and my guests always rave after being taken to this little gem. This spot is my top recommendation as a starting point for any day of wine tasting. • BEST THING ABOUT NAPA VALLEY I am very proud of how charitable we are in the Napa Valley. The desire and willingness of the people and businesses of the Napa Valley to give back to the community and world is very admirable. • BEST HOTEL Check out the Poetry Inn right off the Silverado Trail in Napa, a place with some really stunning views. Above Yountville Cross Rd., the service is pristine and the rooms are glorious. When you awake in the morning, it seems you are on top of the world, looking over the valley with the clouds below. • BEST PLACE TO GOLF The Napa Valley Country Club has the best views at holes 11 and 12. These two signature holes at the Club offer some of the best views in the Napa Valley and are very fun to play. The course is challenging, well maintained, and the 19th hole doesn’t suck either. 88 www.nAPAVA L L E Y L I F Emagaz ine. c om • BEST BREWERY IN TOW N People in the Napa Valley definitely don’t only drink wine. Everyone knows I love Budweiser, but the best brewery and microbrew around is Napa Point Brewing, off Highway 12 in Napa. The brewmaster, Denise Jones, is amazingly talented and makes a great beer. I’m fond of the pilsner, “Crusher,” but the IPA is very good, from what I understand. . . see above as I like Budweiser. • BEST MOTORCYCLE RIDE I love hopping on my bike and heading out from Napa up to Lake Hennessey to Angwin, then over to Pope Valley to Lake Berryessa and then home—what a great ride! • BEST RESTAURANT FOR FOD AND NETWORKING Rutherford Grill is above and beyond the best place to hang out to meet people and be certain to get a great meal! Sit at the bar, hang out and soon you will be speaking to the people sitting around you. You will meet all kinds there—winemakers, contractors and tourists.
