Simply Beauty by SARA CHAPPELLET 2014 Beauty trends translated to the runway of real life L et’s be real—you’re not going to put gold glitter down your part, wear cobalt blue eye shadow from lash to brow and bright orange lipstick to go to work, pick up the kids and take the dog to the vet—on what I call the Runway of Real Life. I’d love to see it and would love you even more if you did, but for most of us, it’s not going to happen. Happily, there are many very achievable looks trending for Spring 2014, and here are some of my favorites, deconstructed. In makeup the cat eye is strong, as well as ethereal white shadow. My favorite way to get an everyday cat eye is to start with shadow primer from lash to brow; lightly sweep shadow on the lid and blend up; line upper lashline with black liner pencil; and finish with a black liner pen, making the line skinny at the tear duct and gradually widening to outer edge, bringing the tail out and up as far as you’d like. The thicker the line, the more dramatic the effect for fancier events. Make sure to “hug” the lashes, getting in between. You could also line the inner upper lid. Finish with mascara on top and bottom, and wink at your sexy self! Soft berry lips are always beautiful. It makes you look like you’ve been kissing, so make sure you’re wearing the right blush! A natural peachy or rosy tone complements most skin tones. Glowing skin is a must year round. Regular facials and a few key products for home care will take care of that. I’ve been using exfoliating pads at night and getting great results! And a little sunless tanner—we won’t tell ;) —does wonders.Finish with a moisturizing sheer tint with an SPF. And have you been drinking enough water? Hair: The bob was very big in 2013 and continues to be, for it is a classic. Try getting some choppy fringe to put an edge on it. Mermaid waves for the longer wavy types are soft and pretty. Before bed, spray hair with Bumble and Bumble Tonic or Prep and put in two braids. Wake up a mermaid! Fluff with fingers and off you go. Great with Ombre looks too. Side windswept fly-away braids and updos are definite must do’s. Use Bumble’s new Cityswept to get the volume, texture and definition that makes these looks so appealing. A sleek low pony never goes out of style. Have fun with hair accessories and play with a low side or center part. Glitter optional! Smooth flyaways by spraying hair spray on your hand and smoothing over finished hair; finish with shine spray. Whatever your look, healthy hair is IN. Keep yours in great shape by getting frequent trims and deep conditioning with a really good mask once a week. Some of us need a leave-in conditioner as well. I like one that also provides heat protection. I hope you found that at least one of these tips has inspired you to try something new on your life’s runway. Take a risk! You just might like it.
