Cellar Angels president Martin Cody with Joe Cafaro in Cafaro's Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. charitable giving THROUGH WINE... all the time MAY / J U N E 2 0 1 4 23 One wine country online sales company has found a way to continue charitable giving even after Auction Napa Valley is over. And, even better, rather than concentrating on wine lovers bidding up prices on the finest Napa wines, the company, Cellar Angels (www.cellarangels.com) asked the wineries to do the giving. And they’ve responded big time. For three years they’ve reduced prices on select and coveted Napa/ Sonoma wines offered exclusively to Cellar Angels members. The more wine you buy, the more the selected charity benefits. The winery fulfills every order, and wine is sent directly to your door – a nice feature that eliminates the endless scanning of retail shelves or marked-up restaurant lists. Here’s how it works: Once each week, members receive an email direct from Cellar Angels with the week’s featured wine. Each offer is available for a period of seven days. The offer comes complete with a custom behind-thescenes video of the winery, tasting notes, food pairing recipe and special incentives for case purchases. Want a signed bottle from the winemaker? They do it. Like to discuss the wine with the winery owner as you drink it? They arrange the call. Traveling to Napa or Sonoma and desire a private tasting? They take care of the details. Most important, in addition to rare access to wines normally sold only through the winery, the consumer gets to select a charity from Cellar Angels partners to which the company will donate 10% of net proceeds. It’s what they call Sip Save Give. And it’s one more reason (not that you needed it) to enjoy your wine. Cellar Angels embodies the art of living well. They, like Robert Mondavi, feel everyone is entitled to the good life. And wine is a part of it. They partner with select producers in America’s two most famed wine regions, Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley, to expose wine lovers throughout the country to fine wines, similar to wines available at the auction. Consumers will be hard pressed to find these gems at their favorite wine retailers as quantities made are just too small. This isn’t stopping Cellar Angels CEO and founder Martin Cody. “There are over 1,000 commercially licensed wineries in Napa County alone, and the wine drinking public knows about 2-3% of them. There is so much incredible wine out there, but the consumer isn’t aware of them as these wines are made in such small quantities they have no distribution. The most rewarding part is hearing from consumers who are blown away by the wine, and benefitting some great causes in the process. What’s not to like?” We have to agree. So if you or your friends can’t make the auction every year, sign up for Cellar Angels and they’ll bring Napa to you. Membership is currently free and no there are no minimums— purchase as often or as little as you like. Act fast, though, as many wines sell out. Register at www.cellarangels.com. by Kari Ruel
