MAY / J U N E 2 0 1 4 21 Changing Lives” is what the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) strive to achieve with the proceeds from Auction Napa Valley. Since 1981, the NVV has invested more than $120 million in local nonprofit organizations, and has become a driving force in Napa Valley’s quest to reach those in need. The NVV takes their responsibility to distribute these funds seriously. They recently refined their giving model to focus on two long-term strategic priority areas: community health and children’s education. Their goal is to invest deeply, rather than broadly, to have a meaningful, measurable impact in our community. The majority of grants support organizations that provide for Napa County’s neediest residents, focusing on strategies for prevention and early intervention. Here are a few of the organizations that benefit from Auction Napa Valley proceeds: GROUPS CREATING A HEALTHY COMMUNITY ($3 MILLION): children’s health initiative napa county community health clinic ole pediatric dental initiative planned parenthood queen of the valley medical center st . helena hospital INSPIRING OUR YOUTH TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL (MORE THAN $ 1.7 MILLION): big brothers and big sist ers of the north bay boys & girls clubs of napa valley boys & girls clubs of st . helena and calist oga child st art inc. community resources for children napa casa, a voice for children napalearns on the move summer search north bay ENHANCING THE EMOTIONAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF OUR COMMUNITY (NEARLY $ 1 MILLION): aldea children & family services family service of napa valley napa emergency women’s services (news) wolfe center BUILDING STRONGER FAMILIES (MORE THAN $600,000): american canyon family resource center calist oga family center cope family center parents can puertas abiertas community resource center st . helena family center PROMOTING SAFE, HAPPY AND HEALTHY AGING (MORE THAN $525,000): area agency on aging serving napa and solano napa valley hospice & adult day services rianda house senior activity center TRANSITION AND CAPACITY BUILDING GRANTS ($1 MILLION): additional funding for long-term strategic initiatives includes: • napa valley vine trail ($2.5 million) • closing the academic achievement gap ($1 million) • meeting the greatest health needs in napa county ($1 million) To pull off such an elaborate undertaking as the Auction Napa Valley, more than 450 volunteers, many of whom are community leaders, will participate in this year’s festivities.
