Get Healthy Today by DR. DAVID EADE, EADE FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC MAy / J U N E 2 0 1 3 39 How Chiropractic Changed Ned Creed’s Life Iwant to share with you something that’s changed hundreds of people’s lives in Napa: chiropractic treatment. In fact I want you to hear directly from one of them, a man named Ned Creed. “I lived an active life growing up, playing soccer, football, and basketball. I learned to ski at a young age and also enjoyed many years cycling and skateboarding. Throughout all these activities I had a solid history of trying hard while accumulating a fair share of hard knocks. Ned has loved to be active his entire life; it’s what defines him! I wouldn’t say that I had chronic back problems—doesn’t everyone get a sore lower back after lifting a bunch of rocks over a weekend, or skiing trees and dropping cliffs on a powder day? I did. But it always went away in one day, two days, maybe three. As I got into my thirties an excessive episode would last four days...until the spring of 2008. I was 34 years old, living in Napa, and over the course of about a month I took the pain in my lower back too far. A few friends needed help moving, so I offered. I worked in a vineyard doing a lot of lifting. I rode my bike three days in a row (about 90 miles total), which at the time was a lot for me. My back really hurt. I now had what I called “spikes,” where bending over to tie my shoes would cause a shooting pain on the left side of my lower back. Then the spikes started to happen when I was just standing at work talking to a client. Like the kind of pain that made me wince out loud, made me weak in the knees, and made me have to clutch something or someone so that I would not fall down! In June of 2008 I went to see my general practitioner for help. He sent me to therapy for five months, but at the end I still couldn’t sleep or really do anything. There was still pain. I hadn’t slept through the night since this started, and bending, sitting, and getting in and out of my car was a task. There was certainly no cycling or skiing! From mid- January to late February of 2009 I went through three rounds of six-inch needles piercing my lower back to the depths of my L5 in hopes that a drug would fix my situation. It didn’t, in fact it gradually got worse. (Look at the picture of my spine; the needle is circled.) I was very desperate, and then I remembered that my cousin had tried chiropractic. That’s when I decided to see Dr. Dave, after asking a lot of people about which chiropractor was best. He sat down with me and let me know he knew what the problem was and that he could accept my case. In April of 2009 I had my first adjustment. Have you ever heard the quote, ‘You have to laugh to keep from crying sometimes’? The best way I can describe it is emotional happiness. Thinking back on that first adjustment evokes this sensation. I remember instantly feeling relief at a multifaceted level, including stress relief and pain relief. Certainly my full level of pain didn’t disappear, but there was a release which was liberating!” Needless to say, Ned has made an excellent recovery and has had fantastic improvement! Fast forward to June 2012… Ned has now been training on his road bike for one of the most difficult and challenging rides in the entire U.S. “The Death Ride” covers 129 miles and 15,000 feet. And he didn’t just attempt it; he DID IT! Well—do you think he’s better? No medications, no muscle relaxants, no Tylenol, no ibuprofen just...Ned! Some people think this is unusual. But we say NO, we see it quite frequently! It's just another "real life" story about people choosing alternative care and having success where nothing else worked.
