s u s t a i n a b l e l i f e blast!* It’s a There will still be plenty of mustard in the fields around the Napa Valley in March, but imagine experiencing it without having to stop the car and get out. A Napa couple, Jason and Kim Rafael, has started NVR Adventures, a mobile scooter, moped and motorcycle rental business to help you do just that. And the snazzy, fun scooters have a low environmental impact to boot. Lots of fun and no guilt. “Being green is important to us,” said Jason. “We chose to go the electric scooter route to have less of an impact on the environment.” “We want people to get out of their motorized vehicles to create less trafffic and to enjoy the Napa Valley in a more sustainable way.” Tom and I recently joined Jason and Kim on a tour among the mustard fields. It was one of the most memorable and colorful times we’ve had in the winter months. Sure, we could have jumped on our road bicycles and ridden the roads between the mustard fields, but the scooter took all the work out of it, so we could concentrate on fun. I had never driven a motorcycle or scooter before, so I was the green one in the group. But it took all of two minutes for me to get the hang of it and then we were off. It was a brisk, chilly day, but the sun was out and we dressed accordingly. Actually we over-dressed, because once we got rolling our senses were on overload and we forgot about the temperature. What was the experience like? Exhilarating. I had never smiled and 38 www. n A PAVA L L E Y L I F Emagaz ine . com laughed so much. We were like kids again. Driving down Dry Creek Road and turning onto Orchard Avenue, where we were greeted with a spray of yellow glow, was magic. Photo-ops were all around us. We took turns exchanging little beep-beeps from the horn and breathed the fresh air in deep. Yes, paradise in our own backyard. Continuing down Orchard Avenue we made an unannounced visit to O’Brien Estates, where we surprised Adam with our beep-beeps as we approached the tasting room. He graciously gave us a small taste of their popular varietal “Seductive.” More mustard was visible among O’Brien’s vines, so we pulled up to one of their picnic tables and soaked in the sun. Visitors to the winery were inquisitive about our ride. “This is what it’s all about,” said the animated Jason. “I want people to see the Napa Valley in 180 degrees, smell it and experience it in another way that no other vehicle can.
