The living room design is simple, giving preference to the majestic view of towering redwood trees and a glimpse of Spring Mountain. This is a special place, “a retreat,” Nurit calls it. We sit beside a crackling fire watching Lily, Nurit’s fluffy grey cat, make her languid progression into the kitchen for a snack. Nurit’s parents, both from Czechoslovakia, gave her two of her most important appreciations for life, nature and food. Her father loved to joke that he married her mother for her apricot dumplings, drizzled with warm butter and cinnamon. Nurit grew up hiking with her father. “Nature, the outside world, tuned our attentions inward and brought us closer together,” she says. Nurit, a proclaimed foodie, cherishes the vista from her kitchen windows.
