NAPA VALLEY BUSINESS SPOtLIGHT by the Napa County Green Business Program Tugboat, Inc., leaders in providing creative and effective promotional marketing solutions, is dedicated to maximizing the impact of their clients’ marketing efforts and minimizing their impact on the environment. In 2011, when Tugboat, Inc., moved into the newly constructed space at 398 Devlin Road, they made a determined decision to undertake the steps necessary to be an environmentally friendly organization. These steps included the use of efficient lighting systems and automatic shut-off timers, low-flow toilets and faucet aerators, an extensive recycling program, purposeful reuse of packaging supplies, a water filtration system, utilization of recycled content papers, minimizing the use of paper via e-documents when possible, and instituting a double-sided printing and copying practice. Tugboat also turned their efforts toward finding socially responsible promotional products that met their high standards Sustainability From vine to bottle, the making of Silverado Vineyards’ exquisite wine depends on the experienced hands of a strong community 52 www. n A PAVA L L E Y L I F E magaz ine . c o m of environmental friendliness and functionality – items such as 100% organic cotton t-shirts, 16 oz. tumblers made entirely from sustainable molded bamboo pulp, sweatshirts made from recycled x-ray film, and messenger bags made from up-cycled bicycle tubes, to name a few. As a result of these efforts, not only was Tugboat able to increase efficiency and morale while decreasing their contribution to waste and pollution, but they also earned certification by the Bay Area Green Business Program. Good wine is about people, from every hand that helps create our Cabernet Sauvignon to every current and future friend who lifts a glass of our wine around the dinner table. We would not be Silverado Vineyards without a strong community, which is why the Miller family, who owns the winery, feels so strongly about being a good neighbor. Of course that starts with how we go about our daily tasks. Our entire estate is sustainably farmed: 15% is farmed organically; 70% is Certified Napa Green; 50% is preserved in the Land Trust exclusively for open space and agriculture use. Our solar panels power 40% of the winery. We are proud of these accomplishments, but they are just the just a beginning. We know we can and will do better. For us, sustainable is not simply a farming method, it is an approach to all of our activities. It is the driving force behind everything we do to ensure that this winery and estate are here for generation of our customers, neighbors and the Millers to enjoy.
