business pro f i l e Steve Silva Plumbing still going strong Napa native Steve Silva enjoys working with his hands and being outdoors, which inspired him to get into the construction business after high school. In 1983 the industry was booming in California and Silva said he felt a calling to be out on his own. “I felt there was a lack of good quality plumbing contractors in the Napa Valley so I started my own business,” said Silva. “The challenge was learning how to be a good businessman rather than a plumber.” Silva found the winning combination. This year marks Steve Silva Plumbing’s 30th anniversary in business, with twenty-two years at its current location on Enterprise Way in the Napa Valley Corporate Park. No other plumbing contractor in Napa Valley offers the full service that Steve Silva Plumbing does, including service and repair, residential and commercial construction as well as a fullservice retail. “We were one of the first to expand our business by moving to the Corporate Park, which at the time seemed so out of the way,” he said. “But our customers and clients have been loyal. Many have become good friends and are like family to us.” The company recently completed a remodel of its beautiful showroom, which shows off an extensive array of styles, finishes and unique touches for any bathroom or kitchen—a selection not found at the big box stores. “Because we know most of our customers personally, we know what their preferences are and what will work for their lifestyle,” said Silva. “They trust our recommendations, and that is a good feeling. We can often 44 www. n A PAVA L L E Y L I F E magaz ine . c o m save our customers money and offer them better quality with our direct line to manufacturers.” Silva’s love for his community and the people around him is evident in how much he gives back and volunteers his time. Earlier this year, the Napa Chamber of Commerce honored him as Citizen of the Year. He is currently the board Chair for the Hospice Foundation, and is on the Board of Trustees of Justin-Siena High School. Steve Silva Plumbing has also sponsored many young sports teams for over-18 players. “Growing up, I had people who helped me and gave me a break,” said Silva. “I will never forget that, and I try do the same for others in my community.” Two years ago Silva brought his son, Cameron, into the business; he has a degree in economic finance and business. Together the father/son duo have been ramping up monthly promotions to help non-profits like Hospice of Napa Valley. A portion of every service call during the company’s anniversary year will be donated to hospice—up to $30 per call. In addition, customers who mention Hospice in July receive 30% off all showroom sales. They have also been known to take over a local Starbucks and hand out free coffee for a morning.
