the Simplified Life K eep it simple” is a philosophy that we all know and may try to follow, but Angela Hoxsey lives it. Angela is a Calistoga-based organization stylist who travels to clients far and wide. This philosophy transfers into all aspects of her life, including her beauty routine. Angela says she’s “never had a good hair day.” Well, I have to say, she fakes it really well! When I interviewed her, it was pulled back smooth into a gorgeous French twist secured with a Ficarre clip. She swears by these handmade clips from Brazil because, she says, “It’s the missing link for all hairdos—they never break, they aren’t blingy, they’re very sleek and minimal, they hold hair wet or dry, they come in lots of colors, and these things make them fit all criteria to be the perfect hair accessory.” She has been a Rene Furterer devotee since the early ’90s because she loves biodynamic and thoughtful products. She feels it’s important to have the best hair products, even if they are somewhat expensive. Her faves from Rene Furterer that work for her hair type are Okara for radiance, Fioravanti for shine and the new Lissea smoothing line. Healthy hair makes her go-to bun or twist super chic and timeless. In the spirit of keeping it simple for skincare, she says that if it’s more than three steps she won’t do it. She’s crazy about Murad cleanser, hydrating oil and night cream, all from the Resurgence line, and she won’t skip SkinCeuticals sunscreen in the mornings. She has IPL facials quarterly to combat rosacea. It’s expensive, but life changing. For makeup, Angela stays simple and classic. She just turned fifty and tells me her routine has changed a lot over the last ten years. What’s working now is foundation primer by Smashbox followed by “life-saving” Bare Minerals foundation. It gives her just the right coverage; it’s matte but not chalky and doesn’t settle into fine lines. She just discovered mascara primer and loves it because it plumps them up, but she is not devoted to any one brand of mascara. Angela feels her lips are her best feature and a plummy, berry, wine-stain-colored lipstick makes her feel finished. When she’s going to an event she likes to have her makeup done, because “I’m a klutz at putting on eye shadow.” 44 www.nAPAVA L L E Y L I F E magaz ine. c o m Her body beauty must-do’s are kale, cardio, water and sleep. “The beauty step I never miss is a workout. Then I feel beautiful even if I look like a mess. If I don’t have a fit body, it all falls apart.” Angela’s favorite old school product is Bonne Bell Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker. “It has the perfect wine color stain. Thank God they still make it!” Angela’s style icon is Margrit Mondavi. She says, “Getting older is not easy. Margrit has so much energy and style and looks amazing! I learned from her to have fun with clothes and to wear what I like.” I find Angela’s simple approach inspiring and I hope that you do, too.
