publisher’s note Welcome to our 12th Annual Intriguing Napa Valley issue full of residents and places worth knowing about. A common theme that rose up in this year’s candidates was that most are all involved or have been involved in some form of entertainment—though that was not the plan. Even Al Jabarin, owner of 1313 Main, was a soap opera actor in his homeland of Jordan. The magical pull and connection for anyone who encounters our incredible Valley is unsurpassed. All of our intriguing candidates who were not originally from Napa said they immediately fell in love with the beauty of the Napa Valley: both its countryside and its people. Others, like our intriguing couple, who grew up here, said they couldn’t wait to come “home” after spending time in the big city. The stories highlight the many facets of our community and what makes it so rich in heritage and tradition, especially as we embrace a new generation that offers a new way at looking at things. Our cover, Jason Court, symbolizes the casual approach to living in Wine Country. He jokes that he is often referred to the Jeff Bridges character “The Dude” in the movie, The Big Lebowski. Sitting down over a glass of wine, Court is full of stories from adventures afar and downplays his acting career that expanded more than two decades. He is a genuine nice guy and said he finally felt home when he landed in the Napa Valley. As we move into 2014, we will be delving more into stories that are molding the future of the Napa Valley.
