IT’S CYCLING SEASON! ead to El Sobrante to fix up your family with the perfect biŽe for the summer By Matt Larson | Photo credit David Meâa We learned how to ride bikes as kids, then many of us stopped the day we got our drivers license. But as gas prices surge and living a healthy lifestyle becomes more and more trendy, it might be time to dust of that old bike and work it back into your daily routine. If it needs a bit of repair, which it certainly should after all these years of neglect, or needs to be replaced entirely, we have some specialty bike shops right here in El Sobrante that can provide the perfect bike for you and the fam. For several decades each, two bike shops in El Sobrante have been providing excellent service and quality products to the cycling community in West county and beyond: The Pedaler, and El Sobrante Cyclery. The big question is, which one to pick? “We have a super big selection of BMX, probably the largest in the Bay Area,” said Kenneth Brown, Owner of El Sobrante Cyclery. Their inventory is still growing today since the 1980s when they started investing in BMX. “We’re not afraid to stock a lot of parts,” said Brown. “People know us as kind of like a 26 MARKETPLACECONTRACOSTA.COM SEPTEMBER 2016 BMX headquarters where they can get over 30 different pedals, sprockets and cranks, all kinds of different accessories.” Above all else, however, El Sobrante Cyclery prides themselves on their main strength which is quality customer service for the whole family, be it for BMX or anything else. The Pedaler shares that mission of catering to cycling needs of the entire family and providing great customer service. If they had to pick a specialty, which for our sake they did: “Probably mountain bikes,” said Jeff Jerge, Owner of The Pedaler. “It’s the hardest bike to understand, so we put a lot of effort into that category.” It’s not that they necessarily sell more mountain bikes compared to their other styles, it’s that people have more specific needs when it comes to the right mountain bike. “We specialize in being a family store,” said Jerge. “But we are certainly expert at dealing with mountain bikes.” While both stores make sure to cater to their customers, they also cater to their local community.
