Contra Costa Marketplace - Sept 2015

Deb’s Dialog Editor’s Notes september 2015 MARKETPLACEcontrac osta .com 7 September is here and summer is now behind us. The season was an eventful one around our house, but maybe what I will remember most about summer 2015 is the drought. Friends and neighbors have taken steps to cope. One family catches water while their shower warms up and empties the full buckets into their garden. Another has stopped using the dishwasher and waters their tomatoes with dishwater. Deborah ludlow Stevens Another is pumping their laundry graywater into barrels and from there to the front lawn. My favorite is probably the staff member here at Marketplace who has avoided letting her grass go brown by painting the dry blades green. Let’s hope we get the wet winter that some experts predict. In the meantime, check the East Bay MUD websites for info about rebates and free water saving devices. Thank you to our readers and advertisers, and have a great fall season! Deborah The September issue is here. That means I’ve spent the past few weeks along San Pablo Dam Road in El Sobrante and Solano Avenue in Berkeley and Albany talking to people about the two biggest East Bay stroll events of the year. The Solano Avenue Stroll comes first, Sunday September 13. Now in its 41st year, this event is going as strong as ever, attracting hundreds of thousands from throughout the Bay Area for a day of John Strohmeier music, food, arts, crafts and lots of organizations with a story to tell. The following Sunday, September 20, comes the El Sobrante version. Now in its 22nd year, this event gets bigger every year and features its own collection of great food, music, and festivities. It’s the celebration of the year in this part of West County. Maybe we’ll see you at one or both of these events. Have a great September. Thank you for reading Marketplace.
